Meet Daymean and Daydreian Beck of St. Lawrence

Bond between brothers

Born identical twins, brothers Daymean and Daydreian Beck have always been together; always playing together; always in school together; they are the best of friends.  At the age of 6, Daymean’s white blood counts were very low and he was rushed to hospital in St. John’s.  Daymean was later diagnosed with a form of cancer, T-Cell Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Now separated from his brother for the first time, Daymean was scared.  Concerned for his son’s health, his father, Augustus, wondered where they would stay in St. John’s.  One thing was for sure, Augustus was not going to leave his son alone.  Augustus spent the first two months in St. John’s sleeping at Daymean’s hospital bed side.   It was only when Daymean was discharged as an outpatient that they took the nurse’s advice and contacted Ronald McDonald House.

These twin brothers have a special friendship and unique bond but after Daymean was diagnosed with cancer and was far from home for treatments, this bond became stronger and even more special.   Daymean and his Dad, Augustus, are staying together at Ronald McDonald House and they both anticipate the occasional weekend visit with Daydreian.  Now, their time together is so much more precious and their bond has since grown stronger.

“Daydreian is my best friend in the whole world.  I get so excited when he comes to visit me at Ronald McDonald House.  I forget about everything else.  This house is so cool!” – Daymean Beck

Daymean was so excited by two special surprise visits from Daydreian; first to celebrate their 7th birthdays together and second when he arrived to spend Christmas with them at Ronald McDonald House.

“Ronald McDonald House has become our home-away-from-home.  It is a special place where my boys can be together, play together and, for a time, forget all the sickness and treatments and just be kids. We have met a lot of nice families here.  Each family has its own story of how they came here but we all have one thing in common, a sick child.” —Augustus Beck

So far, Daymean and his dad have stayed at Ronald McDonald House, during 5 separate visits, totaling 107 nights away from home.

“We are so fortunate for Ronald McDonald House.  When I think of how this helped us, even simple things like a comfortable bed and a hot shower, I can’t imagine how we would have gotten through the treatments without it. There is no better place for children and families to be under these circumstances.” —Augustus Beck
